Now women can travel safely from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport to the city areas with exclusive taxi services with women cab drivers especially for women.
The taxi services are availed through pink cabs which were flagged on Monday on 7th January, 2019. Either group of women or a solo woman can avail this pink cab service which will have women cab drivers.
Karnataka State Tourism Development (KSTDC) and Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) have started this initiative keeping in mind the safety of women.
The Twitter handle of Bengaluru airport tweeted on Monday-
“We, at the BLR Airport, take the safety and security of all our flyers seriously. We decided to do our bit for our female travelers with our all-women taxi service, Pink Taxi. We will pick you up and drop you till your doorstep. Traveling could not get any safer!”
Reasons for this amazing Initiative
There is an increase in the number of female travelers for various professional and personal reasons. At times, the travel time could be at the odd hours. Also, Bengaluru city areas are considerably far from the Kempegowda International Airport. Considering all these reasons, a fleet of 10 pink cabs which are driven by women drivers, have been introduced on experimental basis for women travelers.
Features of Pink Cab services
These pink cabs have features like 24X7 services, GPRS tracking and also an emergency SOS switch. The taxi charges are for day is fixed at Rs. 21.50 per km while night charges go up to Rs.23.50 per km.
Pros and Cons of Pink Cab services
This initiative is a win-win situation for both women cab drivers and travelers when it comes to safety. Also, it’s a great employment opportunity the women cab drivers. The only problem is with the price which is slightly higher compared to normal taxi services.
With the increase in women harassment in many areas of life, pink taxi services is sure to bring some solace to today’s modern women who can work and travel safely without having to be dependent on family members.
