Not only is Memorial Day a celebration dedicated to remembering those who gave their lives while serving in the armed forces, it is also the unofficial start of the summer holiday season. This year, Memorial Day will land on Monday, May 28. In Miami, there are several ways to enjoy and celebrate the three-day weekend. Here are some options.
The Miami Beach Air & Sea Show and Music Explosion
This year’s second annual family reunion Miami Beach Air & Sea Show and Music Explosion will be sponsored by Hyundai from May 26-27, 2018. “The Greatest Show above the Earth” will showcase men, women, technology and Army equipment, the Navy, the Air Force, the Marines and the Coast Guard, as well as the local police, firefighters, and first aid agencies.
Family Fun in Key Biscayne
Summer started with a family weekend at the beach. Head to the Rickenbacker Causeway for Virginia Key and Key Biscayne for more of a relaxed, kid-friendly environment. Both islands offer a wide range of beach scenarios perfect for sunbathing and surfing. Key Biscayne is home to Crandon Park Beach at the entrance to the island and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park at the end.
Eco Tour in Oleta River State Park
For nature lovers, the three-day weekend is a great opportunity to explore one of the most extensive state parks in Miami. To Oleta River State Park, ride your bike along the winding bike paths, hop on a stand-up paddleboard (check this) to enjoy a view of the water, or book one of the guided kayak tours to see manatees, fish, and others wild animals.
Grapeland Waterpark
Perfect for the whole family, Grapeland Water Park opens Memorial Day weekend. With 13 acres of water slides, lazy rivers, and pools, there is a lot of splishing splashing to be done for a day here. Rest assured that you are in good hands, as the park has 24 lifeguards and shallow-water assistants on duty at all times.
The Month of the Museum in Miami
Celebrate the rich cultural history of the city and participate in the Miami Museum Month. Institutions such as History Miami, Miami Children’s Museum, Pérez Art Museum Miami and many more are offering special offers throughout the month of May. Memorial Day Weekend is one of your last opportunities to get those special offers, like buying a ticket and getting one for free.
